The Nilgiris remind me of Oregon in some ways, high moountain lakes, pines, dry central Oregon summer dust, the smell of cool grass in the shade. Of course there are a million other differences signifying my presence in India, but high up here it feels homey. Seth and I both have reflected that being born and raised in a land of hills makes us particularly attracted to places like these high hill stations. Relatively clean air and water, green as far as the eye can see, cool and crisp at night. I have been sleeping well.
