back in the saddle

holiday-season is over which means it's back to regular-style training and diet. away with the cookies and amish bread, out with the oats, soy beans and quinoa. beer: you stay put.

on sunday, eliot and i went to ride away bikes and the bass pro shop picking up little things. to those relatives-what-gave-money this christmas: we're putting it to fine use. we picked up super-light sleeping bags, water bottles and holders, a multi-tool, chain lube, baggage straps, and tire liners to prevent flats and blowouts. streeeeEEEEEEEeeeetching those dollars.

went for a pretty good little 8-or-9 mile ride last night with bags mostly loaded (included our NEW tent which is oh-so-cool and light).  we rode past the Olmos Park Dam, the road next to which i though would be unbearable (especially since, somehow, i ended up with twice the weight eliot had...) but it was actually pretty easy. either we're getting stronger or my topographical judgement is getting weaker.

plane tickets should be purchased in the next few days! were flying Emirate Air, which is known for it's awesome comfort , great food, and awesome flight crew uniforms <--(GET WITH THE PROGRAM, DUDE) . we'll let you know for sure when we're kicking off, but there's alot to between now and then, not least of which is bike a ton more. there's a bunch more to read, budgets to plan, the route to finalize, survival tips to try out, equipment to stress-test, bicycle repair to engage in, cultural/religious research to continue ...

this is so cool.

  2. 1) well, sort of: there's a number of companies like Mr. Tuffy (http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Tuffy-Liners-2-125-Brown/dp/B000C128V6) that make rubber liners that you insert between the tube and the tire that acts to stop glass and little bits from rupturing said tire.

    2) word.
